So you worked your balls off in the gym, sweat is dripping down your back and your slowly to stop your skin tearing from the insane pump you've still got! Job done right?!
In the article I will cut the crap, simple as! After training your body is in a prime state to receive nutrients in which it can use to grow and get stronger.
The Myth is that you get bigger and stronger at the gym, but this couldn't be further from the truth. When you work out you actually tear the fibres in the muscles and make them weaker.
When the muscles start to grow is when you stop training! Your body uses protein and amino acids to repair the fibres, and therefore they grow back stronger and bigger than before.
So in short what you need to do as soon as you finish training is to shuttle repairing nutrients down your neck asap. This includes a protein shake, that contains a whey isolate (the quickest acting) and some sort of sugary item, like sugar or a bannana.

The protein will get to the muscles extremely quickly and is normally out of your system within 30 minutes, while the carbohydrates will force the protein into the muscles and replace energy levels so the body doesn't have to waste and work extra hard by turning the protein into energy!
So you neck this lovely mix at the gym desk and you then, walk, drive or commute back to work or home etc.
But 30 minutes after you have taken the last sick of your protein shake you need to get another high protein meal in. Now if your looking to gain weight this can be a meal with carbs in a 2.1 ratio (35g protein, 70g carbs) but if your trying to stay lean the do it at a 1.1 ratio (35g protein, 35g carbs) but remember that as you have just trained, even if your trying to loose weight your body needs carbs to function!! So don't go without!!
Additions to your recovery!!
Something if you must of heard of if you've ever stepped foot in a gym, is Creatine. And guess what, straight after a workout is a ideal time for your body to absorb it. Don't bother with a expensive mega ester, delivery sex system!! Just get some Monohydrate and add it too your protein shake after you train. The quick action carbs will literally force it into your muscles aiding recovery and helping build size and strength for your next workout!!
Make sure you add plenty in and go for a good 7-10g as why not make sure your body is getting enough!!
The key then is too make the most of this window of opportunity and provide your body with as much fuel and persuasion in the hope that it will respond and grow.
