Time to ditch the milk and cookies, well maybe just the cookies! You grow the most when your sleeping, so start fuelling the growth!
Whether your working a 9-5 or doing the night shift, you need to have your meal before bed. Depending on your goals it can vary, but in this article were going to focus on mass gaining and generaly increasing muscle mass!
If your looking to put on general mass but you find you never seem to get fat then you can eat almost anything you want before bed. If however you find that your body takes those biscuits and puts them stright onto the spare tire, you may need to reduce the carbs before bed.
First then ill deal with people like myself that seem to never put on any fat! I say this with a word of caution how ever!! I once thought i could never ever put on even a inch of weight around my stomach but it turns out after a night shift, and eating a pizza, chips and fizzy drink about 30 minutes before bed even a slim individual like myself can put on un-wanted fat!!
So take a common sense approach to what your eating. Now i look back there's no wonder i was pumping up the tyre! My advice would be, to avoid sugary carbs completely (including milk), keep complex carbs in the back of your mind and just be a little carefull. Now the big debate is about the fats you should consume! I wouldn't overly worry about your fat consumption before bed, just stay away from the saturated fats and move towards the fats you find in nuts or natural oils.
If you find you do put on fat quicker than me in bed then your just going to have to bite the bullet, have barely any carbs before bed and be extra, extra strict on those fats.
I shouldn't even need to explain that your protein intake needs to be high! Im not talking 30 grams i mean closer to 40, or even 50!! Not only does this protein need to be in a high amount, to keep your body growing through out the night but its also vital to take in slow digesting proteins.
Here's a couple of examples of what you could eat before bed if your not worried about adding to that tire or you don't think you will;
Lasagne
Cheese on toast
Peanut butter on toast with a casein based protein shake
Cottage cheese on rice crackers
My favourite eggs, cheese and beans on toast (leave an hour before going to bed!)
However if you do tend to blow up in all the wrong areas then try the following;
Casein based protein shake
Cottage cheese
Cheese
Nuts with a casein shake
To come to a conclusion then, depending on how your body reacts you need to eat different foods before bed, I personally can get away with most things before bed except goodies full with sugar. But the majority can only get away with a few carbs, a handful of fats and plenty of protein.
